Johnson back on track
Jimmie Johnson bounced back from a forgettable Daytona 500 performance by winning the 2010 Auto Club 500 on Sunday at Auto Club Speedway.
Johnson picked up the 48th win of his Sprint Cup career on Sunday, which made up for a 35th place finish at last week’s Daytona 500.
Oddsmakers from online sports book SBGGLOBAL.com gave Johnson 9/2 odds to win the Auto Club 500, meaning a bet of $100 on Johnson will pay out $450.
The key to the win came when Johnson got a green-flag pit stop just moments before a caution flag came out, allowing him to get out front. From there, the four-time defending series champion held off Kevin Harvick for the win.
Harvick attempted to pass Johnson late, but a block move sent Harvick toward the wall, which caused him to lose his charge and settle for second. Harvick had 25/1 odds to win the event.
Jeff Burton, Mark Martin, and Joey Logano rounded out the top five while last week’s winner, Jamie McMurray, finished 17th.
