Hamlin surges to victory
Denny Hamlin made a late surge on a green-white-checkered finish to get the win in the 2010 Goody’s Fast Pain Relief 500 from Martinsville Speedway.
Oddsmakers from online sports book BroburySports.com gave Hamlin 5/1 odds to win Monday’s race, meaning a bet of $100 on Hamlin will pay out $500.
Jeff Gordon seemed set to win the race but a yellow caution flag came out on the final lap to force overtime in the race. On the restart, Matt Kenseth did a bump and run on Gordon to get the lead and when Gordon and Kenseth bumped again, Hamlin raced into the lead.
Gordon finished third while Hamlin ended up 18th. Joey Logano finished second to give Joe Gibbs Racing the top two spots on the day.
Ryan Newman finished fourth while Martin Truex Jr. rounded out the top 10 for the race.
Pre-event favorite Jimmie Johnson finished the race in ninth place. Johnson had 5/2 odds to win the race entering the event.
