Johnson to Start First
Bad weather forced NASCAR and Talladega Superspeedway officials to cancel qualifying on Saturday, so Jimmie Johnson will start in the first position for Sunday’s 2010 Aaron’s 499.
Rain wiped out qualifying on Saturday, so the starting lineup for Sunday’s race will be based upon 2010 owners points and attempts made. Johnson will be in the first starting spot, while Matt Kenseth will be in the second, Greg Biffle in the third, Kevin Harvick in the fourth and Jeff Gordon in the fifth.
Oddsmakers from online sports book BroburySports.com have made Gordon, Kyle Busch and Tony Stewart have all been made 10/1 favorites to win the 2010 Aaron’s 499. Johnson is 11/1 to win, while Kurt Busch is 15/1 and Carl Edwards and Clint Bowyer are 16/1.
The opening odds favored Johnson, who was 6/1, while Kyle Busch, Stewart and Jeff Gordon were all 8/1. It’s interesting that Johnson was 6/1 and has the starting position, yet is now 11/1, which represents great value on JJ.
Kyle Busch won this event in 2008, but has finished 25th or worse in three of his last four Aaron’s 499s. Busch has an average finish of 24.6 at this track with a driver rating of 76.4 He is currently sixth in the Sprint Cup standings, 228 points behind Johnson. He has finished in the top 10 in three of his last four events, but is seeking his first win of 2010.
Gordon is a four-time winner of this event, with the last coming in 2007. He has six wins in his career at
