McMurray leads again
Jamie McMurray continued his hot streak Friday as he won the pole for the 2010 Auto Club 500, which takes place on Sunday.
McMurray had his odds jump from 60/1 to 15/1 following the pole victory, but Jimmie Johnson remains the favorite to win the race.
Johnson is a 7/2 favorite to win the race according to odds makers at the online sports book Sportsbook.com. Other short odds to win are Mark Martin (8/1), Tony Stewart (8/1), Kyle Busch (8/1), and Juan Pablo Montoya (8/1).
Johnson qualified seventh for Sunday’s race. He is a four-time winner at this track, including the 2002 race in Feb. Johnson’s average finish at this track is 5.8 and he has a series-best driver rating of 122.3 at this track.
Martin won this race in 1998 and is coming off a 12th place finish last weekend. Martin has just one career win on this track and an average finish of 14.3. His driver rating is 97.4, which ranks eighth among active drivers. He will start 10th on Sunday.
Kyle Busch has not won this event, but has one career win on this track. His average finish is 10.5 and his driver rating is 102.9, which ranks fourth. He finished 14th in the Daytona 500. Busch qualified ninth for Sunday’s race.
Montoya qualified second for this race. He has competed just six times on this track, finishing in the top five on one occasion. He has an average finish of 18.8 and has a driver rating of 78.4.
