Gordon wins the pole
Jeff Gordon got a step closer to getting his first win of the 2010 NASCAR Sprint Cup Season as he won Thursday’s qualifying for the Bank of America 500 and will start up front on Saturday.
Jimmie Johnson is still the favorite to win the race and has 5/2 odds to win according to oddsmakers at the online sports book Sportsbook.com. Other short odds to win are Gordon (5/1), Kyle Busch (5/1), and Carl Edwards (11/2).
Johnson is still the current points leader by 36 over Denny Hamlin. Johnson has six wins and 13 top-5 finishes this year. Johnson has six wins in Charlotte with an average finish of 10.2 and a driver rating of 115.3, which is the best rating of any driver in the series. He wills tart 10th on Saturday night.
Gordon is fourth in the current standings despite not having won a race this year. He has 11 top 5’s on the season. At Charlotte, Gordon has five wins and 16 top 5’s. His average finish is 15.4 and his driver rating is 89.1.
Kyle Busch qualified sixth for this race. He is ninth in the current standings with three wins and eight top 5’s this season. Busch has never won on this track with an average finish of 17.8 and a driver rating of 104.9.
Carl Edwards is seventh in the standings without a win and seven top 5’s this year. Edwards has never won in Charlotte with an average finish of 13.2 on the track and a driver rating of 84.0. Edwards will start second on Saturday night.
