Busch takes the pole
Kurt Busch will lead the way for the field on Sunday in the 2010 Shelby American on his home track of Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Busch won the pole in Friday’s qualifying to see his odd go from 8/1 to 6/1 with Friday’s performance, but Jimmie Johnson is still favored to win.
Johnson is a 5/1 favorite to win the race according to odds makers at the online sports book Sportsbook.com. Other short odds to win are Busch (6/1), Mark Martin (7/1), and Jeff Gordon (10/1).
Johnson will start 20th on Sunday, but he won this race in 2005, 2006, and 2007. He had four top 10’s in his career at this track with an average finish of 11.1. His driver rating is tops of any active driver at 113.6.
Busch is the defending champion of this event and he holds two pole victories and four top 10’s at
Martin won this event in 1998, his only career win on this track. He does hold nine top 10’s in his career and has an average finish of 13.5. His driver rating at
Gordon won this event in 2001. He holds six top 10’s in his career at this track with an average finish of 12.8. His driver rating is 92.3, which ranks eighth. Gordon will start second on Sunday.
