Hamlin wins qualifying
Denny Hamlin was already among the favorites to win the TUMS Fast Relief 500 on Sunday, but Hamlin only shortened his odds by winning the pole in Friday’s qualifying.
Hamlin is now favored to win the race with 1/1 odds to according to oddsmakers at the online sports book Sportsbook.com. Other short odds to win are Jimmie Johnson (4/1), Jeff Gordon (8/1), and Tony Stewart (10/1).
Johnson is leading the point standings by 41 over Hamlin. Johnson has six wins on the year with 14 top 5’s. At Martinsville, Johnson has six wins with an average finish of 5.4 and a driver rating of 123.8, which ranks best of any current driver. Johnson will start 19th on Sunday.
Hamlin also has six wins on the season to go with 12 top 5’s. At Martinsville, he has three wins with an average finish of 6.6 and a driver rating of 111.4, which ranks third in the series.
Gordon is fourth in the season standings. He is winless on the year with 11 top 5’s. He has seven wins in his career at Martinsville and has an average finish of 6.7 and a driver rating of 123.0. Gordon will start 11th on Sunday.
Stewart is sixth in the point standings with two wins and 9 top 5’s on the year. Stewart has two wins at this track with an average finish of 12.6 and a driver rating of 108.4. Stewart will start from the sixth position on Sunday.
