Newman gets a win
A late caution flag was all Ryan Newman needed to pick up the checker flag in the 2010 Subway Fresh Fit 600 on Saturday night from Phoenix International Raceway.
Oddsmakers from online sports book SPORTSBETTING.com gave Newman 40/1 odds to win Saturday’s race, meaning a bet of $100 on Newman will pay out $4,000.
Kyle Busch seemed to be well on his way to a victory, leading over 100 laps in the race and running up front with just five laps to go but a wreck by Scott Riggs brought out the caution flag and ended Busch’s chances of winning as he had to take four new tires.
With Busch out of the picture, Jeff Gordon and Newman jumped out front and Newman got the best of Gordon and held him off in the final laps to get his first win since the 2008 Daytona 500.
Gordon finished second while Jimmie Johnson was third. Johnson was the pre-event favorite to win the event, with 4/1 odds.
Mark Martin and Juan Pablo Montoya rounded out the top five of the race.
