Hamlin DQ’d, Busch Wins Shootout
DAYTONA, FL (TheSpread) – Kurt Busch was the benefactor when Denny Hamlin was disqualified for an illegal pass in Saturday night’s Budweiser Shootout, as Busch ended up getting the win as a result.
As a pack went around the final lap, Hamlin passed Ryan Newman and was the first to cross the finish line, but Hamlin did so while going under the yellow line, which a driver can’t do to pass someone.
Hamlin was DQ’d and pushed back to a 12th place finish while Busch got the win as he and Jamie McMurray passed Newman prior to the finish to end up first and second respectively.
Busch had 12/1 odds to win the event according to oddsmakers at online sportsbook Sportsbook.com so a $100 wager on him will pay out an additional $1,200.
Defending series champion Jimmie Johnson finished fourth on the day while Greg Biffle rounded out the top five.
