McMurray to start up front
RIDGEWAY, VA (TheSpread) – After a slow start to the 2011 NASCAR Sprint Cup Season, Jamie McMurray got some positive momentum on Saturday as he won the pole for the Goody’s Fast Pain Relief 500.
The pole is the first of the season for McMurray and moves him up to 12/1 odds to win the race according to oddsmakers at online sports book SBGGLOBAL.com. Denny Hamlin is the favorite to win the race with 3/1 odds while other short odds to win are Jimmie Johnson (4/1), Kyle Busch (8/1) and Kevin Harvick (8/1).
Hamlin has won this event two of the last three years and he has four career wins at this track. He has an average finish of 6.1 at Martinsville and a driver rating of 112.5, which ranks third in the series. Hamlin is currently 21st in the season standings as he has just one top 10 this year. Hamlin will start fifth on Sunday.
Johnson will start 17th on Sunday and he has won this event in two of the last four years. He has six wins at Martinsville with an average finish of 5.3 at the track and a driver rating of 122.5, which is best of any driver. Johnson is fifth in the standings with three top 5’s.
Busch is currently fourth in the standings with one win and three top 5’s this year. Busch has never won at this track and his average finish is 16.7 with a driver rating of 91.0, which ranks seventh amongst drivers. Busch qualified 11th for Sunday’s race.
Harvick will start from the ninth position on Sunday and he is coming off a win last week and he has two top 5’s this year. Harvick has just one top 5 in his career at Martinsville with an average finish of 17.3 and a driver rating of 92.6, which ranks sixth in the series.
