Edwards wins the pole
AVONDALE, AZ (TheSpread) – Carl Edwards will start up front for the 2011 Subway Fresh Fit 500 on Sunday after winning the pole on Saturday.
Edwards set a record time for qualifying, coming in with a speed of 137.279 mph. Overall 15 different drivers broke the previous qualifying record.
After qualifying, Edwards now has 6/1 odds to win Sunday’s race according to oddsmakers at online sports book SBGGLOBAL.com, but Kyle Busch and Kurt Busch are the favorites to win with 5/1 odds to win. Other short odds to win are Jimmie Johnson and Denny Hamlin, who each have 6/1 odds to win as well.
The Busch brothers each have won at Phoenix once in their careers. Kurt will start second on Sunday while Kyle will start fourth.
Edwards also has one win at Phoenix in his career and he has the second-best driver rating at this track in the series, falling only behind Johnson, who has four career wins at Phoenix. Johnson will start 28th on Sunday.
Hamlin has never won at Phoenix in his career. He will start 12th.
