Jimmie Johnson 2011 Wins
(TheSpread) – Jimmie Johnson is the five-time defending NASCAR Sprint Cup Champion, but in 2011, how many times will No. 48 grab the checker flag?
Oddsmakers at online sportsbook Sportsbook.com have given the defending champion over/under odds of 5.5 victories in 2011. In order for the wager to be official, Johnson must race in 33 races this season.
Johnson won six race last season on his way to his fifth-straight title. It was the fourth-consecutive season that Johnson had at least six wins in a single year.
In nine full seasons in the Sprint Cup Series, Johnson has racked up 53 victories. His career-high for a single season is 10, which he set in 2007, while his low is 3, which he set early in his career, in 2002 and 2003.
What allows Johnson to get so many wins is his average starting spot (which has been below 10 the last four seasons) and his average finish (which has been between 10 and 12.5 the last four years).
It’s hard to imagine that Johnson wouldn’t be in contention to win six races this year, but NASCAR works in funny ways. Clearly with five-straight season titles, the target is on Johnson’s back, but it is pretty clear that Hendrick Motorsports is willing to do anything to make sure he wins a sixth-straight season title.
