2014 NASCAR GEICO 500 Odds: Brian Vickers Wins The Pole

TALLADEGA, AL (TheSpread) – Brian Vickers was the surprise pole winner for Sunday’s GEICO 500. Here is an updated look at the odds to win Sunday’s race at Talladega.

According to oddsmakers at BetDSI, Dale Earnhardt Jr. is still the favorite to win, as he has 7/1 odds. Jimmie Johnson has the next shortest odds with 9/1 while six other drivers have 12/1 odds.

Earnhardt Jr. is likely in a must-win scenario. He is 11th in the standings right now, 57 points out of first. He is 26 points out of the eighth position needed to advance to the next stage. A win will automatically move him into the next stage. Dale Jr. has won five times at Talladega with an average finish of 15.0 and a driver rating of 90.3, which ranks third amongst current drivers. He qualified 28th for the race.

Johnson is in the same position as Earnhardt Jr., as he is tied for 11th in the standings with him. Johnson is one of the drivers with 12/1 odds. He has two wins at this track with an average finish of 17.2. His driver rating at this track is 85.9, which ranks just seventh in the series. Johnson will start second on Sunday.

Of the Chase drivers, Matt Kenseth has the top driver rating at this track, which is 90.9. He has one win there and an average finish of 18.3 at the track. Kenseth is currently in ninth in the points standings, one point from eighth and 32 points out of first. Kenseth also has 12/1 odds to win this race. He will start 13th on Sunday.
