Vickers has heart surgery

LAS VEGAS, NV (TheSpread) – It hasn’t been an easy road for Brian Vickers away from NASCAR, but the driver is remaining optimistic despite having a second heart surgery this week.

View Current NASCAR Odds

Vickers had to repair a hole in his heart, the second time he has had to do so, and the recovery from the surgery will cause him to miss the beginning of the 2015 Sprint Cup Season.

According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Vickers has 100/1 odds to win the 2015 NASCAR Sprint Cup Championship. Jimmie Johnson is the favorite to win the title with 5/1 odds, while Jeff Gordon and Kevin Harvick each have 6/1 odds.

Vickers is coming off a 22nd-place finish in the 2014 Sprint Cup Series. It was his first full season since 2011, but he was planning on a full season with Michael Waltrip Racing again in 2015. Even though he will miss some action, the new Chase rules will give him a window of hope for a title. If he is able to win a race during the season, it likely will get him into the collection of 16 drivers that will contend for the title at the end of the year. Vickers best finish in the series was 12th back in 2009.
