Edwards wins Coca-Cola 600
CONCORD, NC (TheSpread) – Good pit strategy allowed Carl Edwards to win the Coca-Cola 600 on Sunday night, claiming the victory in NASCAR’s longest race.
Edwards gambled with his fuel tank, and it paid off, as he had just enough to get to the finish line ahead of Greg Biffle and Dale Earnhardt Jr., who were also extending their gas tank. The win was big for Edwards, as it was his first under his new team and locks him into a spot in the Chase for the Championship.
According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Edwards came into the week with 16/1 odds to win, which means a wager of $100 on him to prevail will pay out an additional $1,600.
Edwards has had a rough start to the year, but now those rough finishes are immediately erased. He sits 16th in the standings right now, but a win is all that is needed to advance to the Chase. Kevin Harvick remains in first place in the standings by 43 points on the field while Earnhardt Jr. moves up to fourth in the standings with his finish. He is 69 points behind Harvick, who finished ninth on Sunday.
