Earnhardt Jr. gearing up for 2015
LAS VEGAS, NV (TheSpread) – Dale Earnhardt Jr. came as close to a Sprint Cup Championship last year as he has in a number of years. Can he make a run next season.
Earnhardt Jr. had four wins last year and finished eighth in the standings despite leading the point standings for much of the season prior to the Chase. Once the elimination stages began, Earnhardt Jr. found himself on the outside looking in, unable to qualify for the final four races.
According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Earnhardt Jr. has been given 10/1 odds to win the NASCAR Sprint Cup Championship in 2015. Currently, Jimmie Johnson is the favorite with 5/1 odds, while Jeff Gordon and Kevin Harvick each have 6/1 odds.
Last year was a breakout year for Earnhardt Jr. The four wins were the most he had since 2004. The eighth-place finish was an improvement from 2013, where he took fifth, but last year’s finish doesn’t represent his performance. The closest Jr. has gotten to a title was his third-place finish in 2003.
