Geico 500 Prediction
OPTION 1: Chase Elliott (+1200)
Elliott returned from his six-race absence due to a broken leg last week at Martinsville and finished 10th. He’s going to need a win to make the playoffs this season, as he enters 32nd in points following the absence and while Talladega can be unpredictable, Elliott won his last Cup race at this very track. He also has one of the best track records here, as only Dale Earnhardt and Davey Allison have a better average finish than Elliott among drivers with at least 10 starts at Talladega.
OPTION 2: Ryan Blaney (+1100)
Blaney didn’t win at Talladega last season, but he did win back-to-back times at this track in 2019 and 2020. He’s also the only driver with an average finish inside the top 10 over the last eight races and while his odds don’t offer the best payoff, he should contend. Consider Blaney for your head-to-head props today.
OPTION 3: Kevin Harvick (+2400)
Harvick will hit a milestone this weekend with his 800th career Cup Series start. He’ll be just the 10th driver in series history to reach that number. He’ll also attempt to be the first driver to win in his 800th start and just the third of the 10 to get a top-10 finish. If he leads, he’ll be just the second driver to lead in his 800th career start, joining Darrel Waltrip. So why Harvick to make history today? He won in his 200th career start in 2006 at Watkins Glen and Talladega has a knack for making history, as Brad Keselowski won his 300th career start in 2017 and Denny Hamlin won his 300th career start here in 2014.
