Burton Pays 22/1
Jeff Burton drove hard and smart all day in the 2008 NASCAR Sprint Cup Food City 500 from Bristol Motor Speedway and was in the right place at the right time in the end.
Burton was the recipient of Joe Gibb’s racing driver Denny Hamlin’s bad luck on the final lap of Sunday’s race. Burton zoomed past Hamlin on the outside when it appeared Hamlin had problems getting fuel to the pickup on the high banked bullring.

The win is Burton’s first of 2008 and is also the first win for a Chevrolet this season.
Bettors who backed Burton may be happier than Burton himself tonight. Oddsmakers from online sports book Bodog had Jeff Burton listed at 22/1 odds to win the 2008 Food City 500. Those who placed wagers on Burton to win Sunday’s race were rewarded with an incredible $2200 payout for every $100 wagered.
Burton’s team owner Richard Childress also has to be happy with Sunday’s performance. Richard Childress Racing drivers finished first, second and third with Burton’s victory and teammates Kevin Harvick and Clint Bowyer finishing in second and third respectively.
The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series takes next week off for the Easter holiday. When the Cup Series returns in two weeks the drivers will face off with another short track. This time the much flatter, paperclip shaped half mile at Martinsville Virginia.
Today’s race also brings an era to an end in NASCAR. Previous Cup Series Champion Dale Jarrett ran his final points paying race today in the 2008 Food City 500. He will return in the spring however to run one final time in the Sprint All Star race in May. Jarrett will join the ABC/ESPN broadcast team with fellow Cup Series retiree Rusty Wallace.
