Retirment not happening for Gordon

LAS VEGAS, NV (TheSpread) – At age 43, Jeff Gordon doesn’t feel himself slowing up anytime too soon. Can the NASCAR veteran make another run at a title in 2015?

Gordon sat down for an interview with ESPN The Magazine and let them know that retirement is far from his mind.

“I don’t believe in retirement, No. 1, but I know that I won’t always be a full-time Cup driver. That time is coming,” Gordon said in the interview. “Remember in May, my back got so bad I couldn’t get out of bed, let alone into a race car? So will that play a role in retirement sooner rather than later? It’s very possible. It seems to be the one limiting factor that I have right now. But there’s no plan. There’s no countdown. I’m racing.”

According to oddsmakers at BetDSI, Gordon has 6/1 odds to win the 2015 NASCAR Sprint Cup Championship. He joins Kevin Harvick as the only drivers behind Jimmie Johnson in the odds. Johnson is the favorite with 5/1 odds.

Gordon finished sixth in the standings this past season, but just missed a shot at competing in the final race for the title. He was one point shy of qualifying for one of the final four spots. Gordon is a four-time Sprint Cup champion, but his last victory came in 2001. He hasn’t cracked the top five in the last five seasons.
