Johnson 2007 Champ
In the end Jeff Gordon didn’t have enough for Hendrick Motorsports teammate Jimmie Johnson. Despite finishing 4th in the season finale of the 2007 Nextel Cup season at homestead Miami raceway, Gordon wasn’t able to gain enough points in the end to beat Johnson.
This is the second consecutive Nascar Nextel Cup Championship in a row for Johnson who won 4 of the final 5 races of the 2007 on his way to victory. Johnson beat Gordon by 77 points (unofficially).
Matt Kenseth won the Ford 400 Sunday, his 2nd of 2007. Kenseth’s win and Johnson’s championship bring to an end to an incredible 2007 Nextel Cup Season which Hendrick Motorsports winning half of 36 races, the car of tomorrow introduced and an end of an era at Dale Earnhardt incorporated.
Gordon also set a record of his own Sunday despite losing the 2007 Nextel Cup title. Gordon was able to amount 30 top 10 finishes in 2007 season with his 4th place finish Sunday. That is the first time that feat has been done in the modern era.
In 2008 the Nextel Cup Series will become the Sprint Cup Series. The Busch Series will also gain a new title sponsor in Nationwide Insurance.
Kenseth’s win at 11/2 according to the oddsmakers at Bodog.com paid $220 for every $100 bet.
