Worth the wait
Luckily there ended up being a bigger story than the weather this weekend at Michigan. Kurt Busch was able to get a Dodge back to victory lane in the Motor City.
On the weekend of the Woodward Dream Cruise in Detroit, Busch’s victory gives Dodge’s parent company Chrysler a much needed shot in the arm. It also makes Busch the only driver to ever win a NASCAR race on a Tuesday.
Busch’s victory was also good for NASCAR Bettors. Online sports book Bodog.com had Kurt Busch listed at 11/1 odds to win. Backers of Busch and the Miller Lite Dodge won $1100 for everyone $100 bet. Busch also paid out 13/4 for the highest finishing Dodge in the field at Bodog.
This victory at Michigan puts Kurt Busch securely out of the reach of Dale Earnhardt Jr. for the final Chase position who was only able to put together a 12th place finish Tuesday.
Rounding out the top 5 finishers for the 3M Performance 400 at Michigan were Martin Truex Jr. 2nd, Jimmie Johnson 3rd, Matt Kenseth 4th and Denny Hamlin in 5th.
Other notable finishers: Brian Vickers (Toyota), 8th Bobby Labonte (Dodge) 9th, Greg Biffle (Ford) 19th, Juan Montoya (Dodge) 26th, Jeff Gordon (Chevrolet) 27th, Kasey Kahne (Dodge) 31st, Michael Waltrip (Toyota) 40th Mark Martin (Chevrolet) 42nd.
Drivers and their teams must now scramble back to their shops and then to Bristol Tennessee by Thursday. The conclusion of today’s race brings to a conclusion one of the longest Nextel Cup race weekends in the modern era.
Busch could make it 3 out of the last 4 if he can win next week at Bristol which is historically one of his better tracks. Busch has multiple race wins at the Tennessee bull ring.
Kurt Busch’s victory in the 3M Performance 400 at Michigan was his second of 2007 (Pocono).
