Ford 400 Preview & Picks
Championship weekend, it’s hard to believe it’s been 35 races since the Daytona 500. As 2007 comes to a close it looks like awarding the Nextel Cup Championship Trophy is just a formality. Jimmie Johnson has a 86 point lead on second place Jeff Gordon heading into the season finale and starts from the pole Sunday for the 2007 Ford 400.
However, to borrow a line from Lee Corso, not so fast my friend. I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that Jeff Gordon has made up 86 or more points on Jimmie Johnson 4 times this season. Gordon starts 10th Sunday so he is definitely within striking distance of Johnson but he will need to have a perfect day and Johnson will need to have some trouble.
For Johnson, he will need one of these following scenarios; finish 18th or better, finish 19th or better and lead a lap or finish 21st or better and lead the most laps.
Last week we cashed in on Jimmie Johnson again at +400 for our third race winning pick in the last four races. Here are the picks that will take us into 2008. Good luck and see you next year!
Jimmie came through again for us last week with his fourth win in a row. Nobody has won five in the modern era but if anyone can do it, Johnson can and I want to be betting on him when he does.
This seems to be the only race Greg Biffle can win in the last 3 years so I don’t want to be against him in this spot. Trends and streaks are very important in NASCAR betting and you don’t want to ignore them. Biffle should run strong all day given his history here.
It’s the Ford 400 and Ford’s historically do very well here. Kenseth has been hanging around at the end of the last two races and he came in third yesterday in the Busch race. This could be the week he goes from Bridesmaid to Bride if Johnson will let him.
