Johnson Wins Pole
The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series held qualifying on Friday for the Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips at the Glen and Jimmie Johnson took the pole for Sunday’s race.
The Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips at the Glen will take place from Watkins Glen International in Watkins Glen, N.Y. on Sunday, Aug. 9.

Johnson is now the favorite to win Sunday’s race at 6/1 odds according to odds makers at the online sports book SPORTSBETTING . Other short odds to win are Kyle Busch (7/1), Marcos Ambrose (7/1), Juan Pablo Montoya (7/1), and Tony Stewart (7/1).
Johnson jumped from 20/1 odds to 6/1 after taking the pole on Friday. Prior to last week’s 13th place finish, Johnson had finished inside the top 10 of his last five races. Johnson had three wins on the season and currently sits second in the points standings behind Stewart.
Busch qualified eighth on Friday and swept the road course races during the 2008 season. Busch is just outside the Chase for the Championship in 13th place, so a win would be huge for his push toward the chase.
Ambrose qualified fourth on Friday and is considered a road course specialist. Earlier this year, Ambrose finished third in the road race at Infineon Raceway, and he also took third last year in the race at Watkins Glen.
Montoya will start 10th on Sunday and is riding a nice streak as of late. Montoya has not finished worse than 12th in 10 of his last 11 races. Montoya was a 2007 road course winner and has finished sixth or better in his last three road course races.
Stewart qualified 13th for Sunday’s race and is leading the points standings by 197 points over Johnson. Stewart has six wins in his career on road courses, including four at Watkins Glen.
