Pocono 500 Odds
NASCAR moves to Pocono Raceway in Long Pond, Pennsylvania this week for the Pocono 500 and oddsmakers have made Jimmie Johnson the favorite.
Oddsmakers from online sports book Sportsbook.com have established Johnson as a 9/2 favorite, making his odds to win the 2009 Pocono 500 slightly better than Kyle Busch (7/1), Denny Hamlin (7/1), Carl Edwards (8/1) and Jeff Gordon (8/1).
Johnson currently ranks third in NASCAR’s Sprint Cup Series standings with 1,789 points. In 13 starts, he has two wins, six top 5 finishes and eight top 10s. He currently ranks behind Gordon and current points leader Tony Stewart.
Despite leading in the Sprint Cup Series standings, Stewart has been given 10/1 odds to win the Pocono 500. In 13 starts, Stewart has six top 5 finishes and nine top 10s, although he has yet to win despite leading all drivers with 1,853 points.
Gordon has one win, six top 5s and eight top 10s this season, which is good for a second place ranking and 1,807 points. He currently sits only 46 points behind Stewart in the Spring Cup standings.
Kasey Kahne won last year’s Pocono 500 and has been given 11/1 odds to win this Sunday’s race. Kahne is currently 14th in the standings with 1,501 points. He has no wins, one top 5 and four top 10 finishes in 13 starts this season.
Kyle Busch is expected to give Johnson his biggest competition this week. Busch ranks sixth in the standings with 1,634 points and has three wins, four top 5s and 5 top 10 finishes in 13 starts this season.
The Pocono 500 will take place this Sunday, June 7 at 12:30 p.m. ET. The race can been seen on TNT and can be heard on MRN radio.
