Jimmie Johnson won the pole for Saturday night’s NASCAR Banking 500 on Thursday night to help improve his odds to win.

Johnson was the pre-event favorite to win already before qualifying, and now Johnson has 2.5/1 odds win the race according to oddsmakers at the online sports book SPORTSBETTING.com. Other short odds to win Mark Martin (5/1) and Jeff Gordon (8/1).
Johnson is a two-time winner of this event and leads the point standings by 12 over Martin thanks to his win last week in the Pepsi 500. All-time Johnson has won at Lowe’s five times in his career and has finished in the top 10 in 12-of-16 races.
Martin is a three-time winner of this event and will start second on Saturday night. In his career, Martin has 15 top-10 finishes at Lowe’s Motor Speedway, including two victories.
Gordon sits fifth in the standings, 105 points behind his teammate, Johnson and he will start ninth on Saturday. Gordon is a two-time winner of this event and a four-time winner at Lowe’s. Gordon has finished in the top 10 on 15 occasions on this track.
