Montoya Leads The Way
NASCAR qualifying is complete for Sunday’s
After qualifying, Tony Stewart finds himself as the new pre-race favorite to win on Sunday.
Stewart is a 9/2 favorite to win the race according to oddsmakers at the online sports book SBGGLOBAL. Other short odds to win are Denny Hamlin (6/1), Kurt Busch (7/1), Jimmie Johnson (8/1), Montoya (8/1), and Jeff Gordon (8/1).
Stewart will start second on Sunday and is tied with Johnson for second in the points standings and has three wins on the year. Stewart has finished outside the top 10 in his last four races before having a streak where he finished inside the top 10 in 10-straight races.
Hamlin begins fourth for Sunday’s race and is coming off a win last week in the Chevy Rock & Roll 400. Hamlin sits tied for fourth in the standings and has two wins on the year. Hamlin has finished in the top 10 in eight of his last nine races.
Kurt Busch qualified third for Sunday’s race and is tied for sixth in the standings. Busch has one win on the year and 14 top-10 finishes.
Johnson will start 16th on Sunday and is tied for second in the current standings. Johnson won this event in 2003, but has finished outside the top 10 in five of his last six events.
Montoya is tied for ninth in the NASCAR standings and is winless in the 2009 season. Montoya has three top 10’s in his last eight races.
Gordon won this event in 1998 and 1997 and is sitting tied for sixth in the points standings entering the chase. Gordon has finished in the top 10 in his last two races and will begin 10th in Sunday’s race.
