NASCAR Odds: TUMS Fast Relief 500 – Newman wins the pole

The field is set for Sunday’s 2009 TUMS Fast Relief 500 from Martinsville Speedway, as Ryan Newman won the pole during Friday’s qualifying.

Newman will start out front with Jeff Gordon, but Jimmie Johnson is still favored to win this week’s event.

Johnson is a 5/2 favorite to win the race according to oddsmakers at the online sports book SPORTSBETTING.com. Other short odds to win are Jeff Gordon (7/2), Mark Martin (7/1), and Denny Hamlin (10/1).
Johnson qualified 15^th for Sunday’s race, but he has won six times at

Martinsville, including four of his last five races there. Johnson is coming off back-to-back wins in the series and he currently leads the points standings by 90 points over Martin.

Gordon qualified second for Sunday’s race and he sits 135 points behind Johnson, in third place in the standings. Gordon has seven all-time wins at

Martinsville and has finished in the top five in his last 10 races at this track. Gordon is also work on three-straight top five races in the Sprint Cup series.

Martin qualified fourth for Sunday’s race and is a two-time winner at

Martinsville. Martin’s last win didn’t come until 2000, but in his career, he has 22 top-10 finishes.
Hamlin is the defending champion of this race and has finished in the top eight in seven of his eight races at

Martinsville. Hamlin will start 17^th on Sunday and he currently sits 11th in the standings, 372 points behind Johnson. Hamlin has finished outside the top 20 in three of his last four races.
