As the chase begins, Jimmie Johnson finds himself as the favorite to win his fourth-straight Sprint Cup championship.

According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetOnline, Johnson has odds of 5/2 to win the championship. Other short odds to win are Mark Martin (3/1), Tony Stewart (3/1), and Jeff Gordon (4/1).
Johnson sits tied for second in the standings, 10 points behind the leader, Martin. Johnson has won the last three Sprint Cup championships and has 15 top 10 finishes in 2009 with three victories.
Martin is the leader heading into the first chase event thanks to his four victories and six poles in 2009. Martin has finished in the top five on nine occasions this year and has three races that he did not finish.
Stewart has led the standings throughout the year, but drops to second under the new standings criteria. Stewart has three wins and taken four poles this season, but leads the series with 18 Top 10 finishes.
Gordon is tied for sixth in the standings, 30 points behind Martin. Gordon has one victory on the year and is tied with Stewart with 18 Top 10 finishes this year.
