Kenseth wins Sylvania 300
Pure heartache for Kevin Harvick led to pure joy for Matt Kenseth, as Harvick’s lack of fuel allowed Kenseth to win the Sylvania 300 on Sunday.
Needing a really strong finish today after a 42nd-place finish last week in the first Chase race, Harvick had a dominant car throughout the day, but he ran out of gas with three laps to go while in the lead. As he ran out, that allowed Kenseth to pass and take first place and get the win. Kenseth now automatically advances to the second stage of the Chase with last week’s winner Denny Hamlin, who finished second on Sunday.
According to oddsmakers, Kenseth had 8/1 odds to win Sunday’s race, which means that a $100 wager on him to prevail will pay out an additional $800.
Harvick ended up 21st in the race and he is last of the 16 Chase drivers in the standings. He is 25 points out of 12th place with one race remaining until the last four drivers in the standings are cut. Joey Logano, Greg Biffle and Carl Edwards rounded out Sunday’s top 5 to put themselves in strong position heading into next week’s race.
