Oddsmakers from online sports wagering site Bodog have made “Iron Man” Carl Edwards the odds to win favorite in NASCAR’s longest race of the season.

Edwards – who is considered by most to be NASCAR’s fittest driver has opened as a 5/1 favorite to win the 2008 Coca-Cola 600 this Sunday at Lowe’s Motor Speedway in
Charlotte, North

Carolina.

This grueling 600 mile event starts in the late afternoon and ends in the evening and is taxing on a driver both mentally and physically. In addition to Edwards’ solid 2008 Sprint Cup season thus far, his physical conditioning no doubt played heavily in the eyes of sports oddsmakers.

Edwards is the lone Ford driver among the top 5 favorites to win according to Bodog oddsmakers. He is followed by Kyle Busch in a

Toyota at 5.5/1, Jimmie Johnson in a Chevrolet at 6/1 and Tony Stewart and Denny Hamlin – both listed at 8/1 and both driving Toyota Camry’s.

In all, odds to win are available on 34 individual drivers for this year’s Coca-Cola 600. 43 drivers will start Sunday’s race and the remaining drivers without odds to win will be placed in the field pool. Currently field odds to win are 40/1. If any driver were to win from the field pool a winning wager would pay an incredible $4000 for every $100 bet.
