2011 Wins: Gordon vs. Stewart
(TheSpread) – Tony Stewart and Jeff Gordon are two veterans of NASCAR and both looking for a big 2011 in the Sprint Cup Series, but which driver will win more races this year?
Both drivers have had success in recent seasons but both also went through recent winless droughts. For Gordon, that is still continuing as he didn’t win a race in 2010.
Oddsmakers at online sportsbook SBGGLOBAL.com feel that Stewart is the favorite of the two drivers in terms of winning more races in 2011, as he has odds of -130 while Gordon has odds of -120.
Stewart has driven in the Sprint Cup Series for 12 years and has 39 career wins with 153 top 5’s and 247 top 10’s. Stewart had two wins last year, which tied for his second-lowest total in his career. He had just one in 2008, but bounced back with four in 2009. Stewart’s career-high win total is six, which came in 2000.
Gordon has been driving for 18 seasons already and has 82 career wins with 274 top 5’s and 378 top 10’s. Gordon has been in a funk in recent years as teammate Jimmie Johnson has taken over as the top driver in the sport. Gordon has just one win over the last three years, but did have six in 2007, which is the most he has had since 2002. His career-high for wins is 13, which he had way back in 1998.
It is pretty clear that Jeff Gordon’s best days are behind him. Though still a threat, he never seems to come up with the winning formula. Hendrick Motorsports is even willing to take Gordon’s crew and pair them with Johnson to help insure Johnson wins the season title. Stewart may not be in his prime, but he is the top driver in his own team and the owner, so he will always be looking out for himself.
2011 NASCAR Sprint Cup Futures Odds – More Wins in 2011 (Both drivers must contend in 33 races)
Tony Stewart -130
Jeff Gordon -120
