2011 Points: Busch vs. Biffle
(TheSpread) – Kurt Busch and Greg Biffle have been mainstays in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series for years. Though neither may win the season title in 2011, they will be competitive amongst one another.
This season NASCAR has changed up its point system, significantly cutting down the total number of points one can earn in a race. The maximum number of points one can earn is 48 and there is an added emphasis on winning in 2011.
43 drivers will contend in each race and the winner will receive 43 points, second 42, third 41, all the way down to last, which gets just one point. The winner will also get three bonus points and one bonus point is given to each driver that leads at least one lap in the race and to the driver that leads the most laps in the race. So essentially, the winner of each race gets at least 47 points.
Oddsmakers at online sportsbook SBGGLOBAL.com feel that Biffle has better odds to finish ahead of Busch as Biffle has been given odds of -150 to win this head-to-head matchup while Busch has been given odds of +100.
Last season, it was Biffle that finished ahead of Busch as Biffle took sixth on the year while Busch was 11th. Biffle had two wins to his credit, as did Busch, and both also had 9 top 5’s. Biffle was able to out-last Busch as he managed to make his bad finishes a little better than Kurt.
Biffle has made the Chase for the Championship the last three seasons. His best-career finish was second in 2005, when he won six races. Biffle went winless in 2009, but still ended up seventh in the season standings.
Busch has finished in the Chase the last two years. He was the season champion in 2004 thanks to 21 top 10’s that season. Busch has won at least one race every year since 2002, but this year he has some changes as he will be driving the No. 22 instead of the No. 2 and the change appeared to work early, as he won the 2011 Budweiser Shootout.
This one is hard to gauge as both drivers have been hot and cold over recent seasons. Biffle is a guy that can get lost in the mix if he has a slow start, while Busch is a guy that tends to always be in the top 10 area.
