CAR–NASCAR-CHARITY WORK
RICHMOND, Va. – When devastating tornadoes swept through the South in the days before Denny Hamlin’s charity race, the NASCAR star made some benefactor adjustments to his Short Track Showdown. Instead of splitting all the money the event raised between his three favorite charities, he decided to send 10 percent to the Red Cross for tornado relief. The announcement came during the same week that NASCAR unveiled a new program, NASCAR Unites, to encourage people in racing, including fans, to make efforts as volunteers and donors. By Hank Kurz Jr.

CAR–INDYCAR-LOOKING FOR LUCK
SAO PAULO – IndyCar CEO Randy Bernard said his heart sank when he saw dark clouds starting to hover above the exciting track the series set up on the streets of Sao Paulo. He knew one of its marquee events was about to get disrupted by bad weather for the second year in a row. The clouds quickly turned into severe thunderstorms, and the Sao Paulo 300 was postponed, again cut short by rain. It was another hard hit for a series desperate to put on good shows to boost its image and increase television ratings. By Tales Azzoni. Sent

CAR–F1-TURKISH GP-PREVIEW
Having ended Sebastian Vettel’s perfect start, Lewis Hamilton heads to the Turkish Grand Prix looking for ways to close the gap on the defending Formula One champion. When Vettel won the opening two races of the season and took his third straight pole position in China, talk was building that the German driver’s lightning-quick Red Bull would be impossible to catch – until Hamilton beat him at the Chinese GP last month. Hamilton, the F1 champion in 2008, thinks the suspense is just beginning and predicts further twists in Istanbul. By Jerome Pugmire. Sent
