Last week: Dale Earnhardt Jr. won at Michigan to end a 143-race winless streak dating to his June 2008 victory at the track. The victory was Earnhardt’s 19th overall and second in 159 starts for Hendrick Motorsports.
Fast facts: Daytona 500 winner Matt Kenseth leads the season standings, four points ahead of Earnhardt. … Gordon has a Cup-record nine road-course wins, five at Sonoma and four at Watkins Glen. Tony Stewart has seven road-course victories, two at Infineon and five at Watkins Glen. … Juan Pablo Montoya won the 2007 race for his first Cup victory. He also won in 2010 at Watkins Glen. Last year: Reed Sorenson won in a chaotic overtime finish. Justin Allgaier led after the final restart and appeared to have the win sealed up when the yellow flag waved because of another rash of crashes, but Allgaier didn’t have enough fuel to make it to the finish on the large track.
Last week: Joey Logano won at Michigan for his fourth victory in the last five races and fifth of the season in Joe Gibbs Racing’s No. 18 Toyota.
Fast facts: Elliott Sadler leads the season standings, eight points ahead of Austin Dillon. Sadler has two victories this year. … Jacques Villeneuve, the Canadian who won the 1997 Formula One championship, is driving the No. 22 Dodge for Roger Penske. Villeneuve won CART races at the track in 1994 and 1995. … Ron Fellows will pilot the No. 5 Chevrolet for Hendrick Motorsports. Fellows is a four-time Nationwide winner on road courses. The Canadian has Trans-Am and American Le Mans wins at Road America. … Michael McDowell is driving Gibbs’ No. 18 car.
