Last week: Jeff Gordon won at Pocono for his first victory of the season and 86th overall. The rain-shortened race was marred by the death of a fan hit by lightning in the parking lot behind the grandstand.
Fast facts: Dodge announced Tuesday that it is withdrawing from NASCAR after the season. … Dale Earnhardt Jr. leads the season standings with five races left in the regular season. Matt Kenseth is second, five points back. The top 10 will earn spots in the 12-driver Chase. Kasey Kahne, with two victories, holds the first of the two wild-card spots that will go to the drivers with the most victories in the 11th-20th spots. Kahne is 11th. No. 13 Gordon, No. 14 Ryan Newman, No. 15 Kyle Busch and No. 17 Joey Logano each have one victory. No. 4 Jimmie Johnson, No. 6 Tony Stewart and No. 7 Keselowski lead the series with three victories, with each victory worth three points when the points are reset for the 10-race finale. … Gordon has a Cup-record nine victories on road courses, winning four times at Watkins Glen and five at Sonoma. Stewart has seven road-course victories, five at Watkins Glen and two at Sonoma. … In June at Sonoma, Clint Bowyer won for the first time on a road course. … Road racer Boris Said is driving Frankie Stoddard’s No. 32 Ford.

Last week: Series leader Elliott Sadler won at Iowa, ending Ricky Stenhouse Jr.’s winning streak at the track at three. Sadler has four victories this year.
Fast facts: Sadler has an 18-point lead over Austin Dillon. Defending series champion Stenhouse is third, 21 points back. … Canadian Ron Fellows, a three-time Nationwide winner at Watkins Glen, is driving JR Motorsports’ No. 5 Chevrolet. … Carl Edwards is making his first series start of the season. Kyle Busch, Brad Keselowski, Joey Logano and Kasey Kahne also are racing. Kyle Busch, the series career victory leader with 51, is winless in 10 starts this season. … Nelson Piquet Jr. won the road race at Road America in June.
