NASCAR:
CAR–NASCAR-HAMLIN-FEDEX
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Denny Hamlin has sorted packages at FedEx headquarters on the busiest day of the year, and he’s been sent to the Super Bowl, the Orange Bowl and the FedEx Cup with Davis Love. But his latest sponsor outing may have been the most unique yet: FedEx sent him to Alaska to learn how to drive a dog sled with the reigning Iditarod champion. A strong partnership between the driver and sponsor is one of the reasons why Hamlin is negotiating a new contract with Joe Gibbs Racing some 16 months before his deal expires. CAR–NASCAR-PIQUEST’S PROGRESS
ELKHART LAKE, Wis. – Plenty of open-wheel drivers have tried to make the transition to NASCAR over the years. Relatively few of them have been willing to start near the bottom and work their way up. That isn’t the case with former Formula One driver Nelson Piquet Jr., the son of a three-time world champion. While Piquet’s victory in Saturday’s Nationwide Series race at Road America was a significant step in his career, he’s more concerned about running for the championship in NASCAR’s third-tier Camping World Trucks Series and proving he can be consistent. INDYCAR:
CAR-INDY LIGHTS-GUERRIERI
DES MOINES, Iowa – For drivers on the Indy Lights development circuit, being overlooked is a fact of life. So few could argue with the call by IndyCar officials on Saturday night to push the Indy Lights race back from before the main event until after it because of heavy storms. The scattering of brave souls that stuck around until Sunday morning saw yet another dazzling performance by open wheel’s emerging star; Argentinian Esteban Guerrieri. By Luke Meredith.
