CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) – Crew chief Jerry Baxter has apologized for pulling Steve Wallace’s hair after the Nationwide Series race in Montreal.
Baxter says in a statement that he was frustrated following Saturday’s race and let his emotions get the best of him. Baxter says he called Wallace on Monday to apologize.
Baxter reached into Wallace’s car and pulled his hair as Wallace drove down pit road after the race. Baxter was upset because contact between Wallace and Patrick Carpentier ended Carpentier’s race.
Carpentier had announced before the race that he was retiring after the event, and Baxter says the Pastrana-Waltrip Racing team had hoped to give him a strong finish.
Team co-owner Michael Waltrip says Baxter crossed the line and was not being a good sport.
