INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – Danica Patrick won’t commit to returning to the IndyCar series next year, saying only that she’s focusing on the Indianapolis 500.
The 29-year-old who also has driven in NASCAR’s Nationwide Series has been the face of the IndyCar series since 2005, even though she has just one win.
Patrick qualified fourth and briefly led the Nationwide race at Daytona before finishing 14th in February, then placed fourth in the Las Vegas Nationwide race in March. She’ll return to NASCAR for the Nationwide race at New Hampshire in June.
Her improved performance in NASCAR and her vague answers about her future have fueled speculation that she might be leaving open-wheel racing.
For now, she says she’s focused on the Indy 500 on May 29.
