HOMESTEAD, Fla. (AP) Jeff Gordon topped the speed chart for NASCAR’s last practice before the season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
Gordon had the best 10-lap average around the 1.5-mile track Saturday, averaging 169.489 mph during his first 10 laps of the session.
Kasey Kahne was second at 169.020 mph, following by Joey Logano, Kyle Busch, Kurt Busch and Dale Earnhardt Jr.
Gordon, Kyle Busch, Martin Truex Jr. and defending Sprint Cup champion Kevin Harvick are the only four drivers remaining in the Chase for the championship.
Truex was seventh on the speed chart, and Harvick was 16th.
Logano turned the fastest single lap of practice, averaging 175.404 mph on his first lap of the session. The 10-lap average is considered the best judge of race readiness.
