TOKYO (AP) – A motor racing unit of Honda Motor Co. says it will stop holding IndyCar Series races in Japan due to the economic downturn.
Mobilityland Corp., a wholly owned unit of Honda, announced on Wednesday the 2011 Indy Japan in September will be its last IndyCar race at the Twin Ring Motegi circuit north of Tokyo.
The Indy Japan on Sept. 18 is one of only two IndyCar Series races held outside of North America this year. The other is the Sao Paulo Indy in Brazil in May.
The Twin Ring Motegi has hosted the Indy Japan since 2003. Before that, the 1.5-mile oval was host to CART and NASCAR races from 1998.
