DETROIT (AP) – IndyCar CEO Randy Bernard says he felt like a “dead man walking” when he tweeted about an owner trying to get him fired.
Bernard reiterated before Sunday’s Detroit Grand Prix that he doesn’t regret posting what he insisted was simply “factual” information on his Twitter account two days after the Indianapolis 500. Bernard says he wanted to get out in front of the problem, adding he fights like a “tiger” when backed into a corner.
The former Professional Bull Riders executive says he wants to work with owners on solutions such as controlling cost certainty, but stressed that he answers only to IndyCar’s board of directors.
Bernard says he’s encouraged by the momentum created by strong TV ratings at last week’s Indy 500, particularly in the NASCAR-hotbed Charlotte, N.C., market.
