FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) -If Jimmie Johnson has any more problems in Texas, his unprecedented drive for five consecutive Sprint Cup championships could be in trouble.
Johnson arrived at Texas last fall with a such a big lead that a crash on the third lap that sent him to the garage for more than 100 laps for repairs didn’t derail his championship effort.
He’s back in Texas again in the lead with three races left. Except he’s barely in front in the closest three-way Chase for the Sprint Cup championship to date. Only 38 points seperate him, Denny Hamlin and Kevin Harvick.
Still, Johnson says he’s feeling no extra pressure. Actually, he says it’s easy because he knows what he has to do Sunday: finish ahead of Hamlin and Harvick.
