FONTANA, Calif. (AP) – Kasey Kahne waited nearly two years between signing a contract with NASCAR’s winningest team and finally climbing into his new ride.
So far, the wait was hardly worth it.
Kahne has opened the season with a month of wrecks, mistakes and disappointing results for Hendrick Motorsports, culminating in a collision with Regan Smith ruining last week at Bristol.
His car is 34th in owner points, theoretically putting Kahne in position to lose a guaranteed spot in the field.
Yet even after winning just once since September 2009, Kahne is confident he’ll get his season back on track this weekend at Auto Club Speedway, where he qualified fifth on Friday.
Kahne realizes the wrecks weren’t entirely his fault, and he still believes he’s got the fastest ride in NASCAR.
