TALLADEGA, Ala. (AP) NASCAR has acquired fellow stock car racing organization Automobile Racing Club of America, known as ARCA.
NASCAR vice chairman and executive vice president Jim France called the announcement Friday ”a big moment for stock car racing in America.”
ARCA has been a launching pad for drivers looking to make it to NASCAR’s Cup series.
ARCA founder John Marcum once worked as a NASCAR official and raced against that series’ founder, Bill France Sr. ARCA began racing at Daytona International Speedway in 1964.
The ARCA Racing Series will keep operating under its current structure through 2019, including nine events at NASCAR venues this year.
ARCA President Ron Drager says at times it’s felt like a rowboat on the ocean getting rocked by ocean liners. He says he wants ”to be on a bigger boat.”
