DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) – Hoping to improve pit stops for NASCAR champion Jimmie Johnson, crew chief Chad Knaus is turning to the NFL for inspiration.
Speaking to reporters at Daytona International Speedway on Friday, Knaus says the No. 48 crew is almost entirely new for the Daytona 500 on Feb. 20. Knaus is referring to his new pit crew members as starters and backups, and he says if a starter isn’t performing up to par, he’ll be replaced.
The No. 48 team even held its own version of the NFL’s scouting combine in the offseason, holding open tryouts for crew members.
