SPARTA, Ky. (AP) – His first Sprint Cup victory finally accomplished, David Ragan wondered if the pressure would finally ease.
It hasn’t. In fact, his breakthrough win at Daytona last week has only upped the ante.
The 25-year-old Roush Fenway Racing driver finds himself suddenly in position to contend for a spot in NASCAR’s playoffs this fall and prove he’s ready to live up to the “young gun” label he was given when he broke into the series full-time in 2007.
His win couldn’t have come at a better time. Ragan’s No. 6 is sponsored by shipping giant UPS, whose contract with Roush is up at the end of the season. Ragan is optimistic his win increases the chances of UPS staying on next year.
