Public Betting Trends
According to oddsmakers from online sportsbook BetNow.eu, the Clippers are 8-point favorites to beat the Suns. The total, meanwhile, sits at 229 points and as of this writing, 77% of the public betting tickets wagered at online sportsbooks are on the Clippers to cover the point spread.
Phoenix Suns Fantasy Spin
Tyler Johnson (sprained right ankle) is being listed as questionable for Wednesday’s game against the Clippers. Johnson’s right ankle first started giving him trouble on Jan. 26, and it’s currently unclear if he aggravated the injury while logging 32 minutes as a starter on Sunday. While Johnson tends to power through his various ailments, there’s less incentive for him to do so on this tanking Suns’ team, so it wouldn’t be shocking to see him hit the sidelines in their final game heading into the break. If he sits, Elie Okobo would get the start and Devin Booker would spend some more time running the offense. Stay tuned.
Los Angeles Clippers Fantasy Spin
Landry Shamet built on his strong debut with 15 points, three rebounds, two assists, two steals and three triples in 33 minutes vs. the Wolves on Monday. That’s two solid games in a row for his new team after his 17-point debut with four 3-pointers. Coach Doc Rivers was talking up his new weapon over the weekend and even said he broke out the “J.J. Redick package” for him. He played 33 minutes compared to 18 for Garrett Temple and is trending up fast as a 3-point specialist.
NBA Betting Trends
Phoenix
The Suns are 3-7 against the spread in their last 10 games overall and just 1-4 against the number in their last five road games.
Los Angeles
The Clippers are 2-7 against the spread in their last nine conference tilts and are 1-6 at the betting window in their last seven home games.
Prediction
The Suns are terrible but I don’t trust the Clippers to cover a relatively large number right now. So let’s look at the total. The under is 4-0 in the last four meetings between these two teams at Staples Center and cashed in five of the previous seven matchups. The under is also 4-1 in the Suns’ last five games overall and is 9-4 in the Clippers’ last 13 home games following a road trip of seven or more days. With the total sitting at 229, there’s some value in the under.
Wednesday NBA Prediction: Suns/Clippers under 229
