Hawks trying to heat up
Atlanta is hoping to get on track as they have won two of their last three games and trying to win three out of four. The Hawks are coming off a 122-107 win at Charlotte on Sunday. Atlanta is 6-17 on the season, 3-9 on the road, 11-12 against the spread and 13-10 with the over.
The Hawks have not been a good defensive team this season, allowing 117.3 points per game while allowing opponents to shoot 46.9 percent against them. Offensively, Atlanta is averaging 108.7 points per game while shooting 45.5 percent from the field and just 31.7 percent from the arc. Trae Young is leading the team with 28.8 points, 4.1 rebounds and 8.4 assists per contest. Jabari Parker is adding 16.2 points and 6.3 rebounds per contest.
Heat winning, not covering
Miami is coming off a pair of wins over the Wizards and Bulls at home last weekend, but the Heat failed to cover the spread in their last three games. The Heat are 17-6 on the season, 10-0 at home, 14-8-1 against the spread and 11-11-1 with the over/under total.
The Heat are putting up 111 points per game this year while shooting 47.2 percent from the field and 38.4 percent from the arc. Defensively, Miami is giving up 105.5 points per game while holding opponents to 43.6 percent from the field and 31.8 percent from the arc. Miami is dealing with some injuries as both Gordan Dragic and Justise Winslow are both out for tonight’s game. Jimmy Butler is leading the team this year with 20.6 points, 6.3 rebounds and 6.8 assists per contest. Kendrick Nunn is adding 15.3 points per contest.
NBA Betting Trends
Atlanta
The Hawks are 19-6-1 against the spread in their last 26 Tuesday games, but just 1-7 ATS in their last eight games following a failed cover
Miami
The Heat are 9-2 against the spread in their last 11 home games and 11-3 ATS in their last 14 games as a favorite.
Prediction:
The Heat have won and covered in both meetings with the Hawks this season, including a 112-97 win at home over the Hawks in October. The Heat have struggled covering recently, but still are winning by notable margins. They beat the Wizards by 9 and beat the Raptors on the road by 11 in OT. The Hawks beat the Warriors and Hornets, but the Heat are far better. Miami should be able to defend Young and make others have to beat them. Atlanta hasn’t found those others to be consistent enough to get the job done. Young likes a shootout, but Miami is one of the best 3-point shooting teams in the league.
NBA Prediction: Miami Heat -9
