Nets short handed
The Nets are coming off a 130-118 win at Atlanta on Wednesday night. They have won six of their last eight despite being without some key players in Kyrie Irving and Caris LeVert due to injury. Brooklyn is 11-10 on the season, 5-6 on the road, 11-10 against the spread and 10-10-1 with the over/under total.
Brooklyn has been right around even when it comes to scoring and defense. The Nets are putting up 113 points per game on offense while shooting 45.1 percent as a team. Defensively, Brooklyn is giving up 113.4 points per game while allowing opponents to shoot 44.5 percent. Spencer Dinwiddie is leading the way with 20.8 points and 5.8 assists per game while Jarrett Allen is averaging 12 points and 10.6 rebounds per game.
Hornets trying to heat up
The Hornets are coming off a 106-91 win at home over the struggling Warriors on Wednesday night. They have won three of their last five. Charlotte is 8-15 on the season, 5-6 at home, 12-11 against the spread and 12-11 with the over.
Charlotte has struggled to score consistently this year, putting up 105.4 points per game while shooting 44.7 percent. Defensively, the Hornets are giving up 112.8 points per game while allowing opponents to shoot 48.8 percent against them. Devonte’ Graham is leading the Hornets this year with 18.7 points and 7.7 assists per game while Terry Rozier is adding 17.7 points, 4.3 rebounds and 4.2 assists per contest.
NBA Betting Trends
Brooklyn
The Nets have covered in four straight Friday games and 6-1 ATS in their last seven games against a team with a losing record.
Charlotte
The Hornets are 4-1 against the spread in their last five home games and 7-2 in their last nine games as a home underdog of 0.5-4.5 points.
Prediction:
These two met back on Nov. 20 in Brooklyn, with the Nets getting a 101-91 victory as a 4-point favorite. The Nets have been hard to pinpoint, but they have done a good job this year of beating the bad teams. Their recent losses have been to Miami, Boston and Indiana. Charlotte is certainly not in that category. The Hornets definitely have scoring depth, so a different player can get hot night-to-night, but Charlotte has been too inconsistent offensively to trust in this game. I will go with the Nets to pull off the cover on the road.
NBA Prediction: Brooklyn Nets -2.5
