Nets staying hot
Brooklyn is coming off a 122-117 win over the Bulls at home on Tuesday. The Nets have won seven of their last eight games while going 7-3 against the spread in their last 10. Brooklyn is 28-24 on the season, 12-13 on the road, 29-23 against the spread and 27-25 with the over.
The Nets are putting up 111.8 points per game while shooting 36 percent from the arc. Defensively, Brooklyn is giving up 111.5 points per game. The team lost Spencer Dinwiddie for most of the remainder of the season recently due to a thumb injury. He averages 17.2 points and 5.0 assists per game. D’Angelo Russell is leading the squad with 19.5 points and 6.4 assists per contest.
Spurs struggle vs. Phoenix
The Spurs are coming off a 126-124 win at home over Phoenix that coach Gregg Popovich called a “pathetic” performance. Still, San Antonio has won three straight while covering the spread in three of its last four. The Spurs are 30-22 on the season, 20-7 at home, 31-20-1 against the spread and 30-21-1 with the over.
San Antonio is putting up 112.6 points per game on offense while shooting 48.3 percent from the field and a league-best 41 percent from the arc. Defensively, San Antonio is allowing 110.0 points per game while opponents shoot 46.4 percent against them. DeMar DeRozan has missed the past few games with a knee injury, but is expected to return tonight. He is averaging 21.5 points, 6.2 rebounds and 6.3 assists per game to lead the team while LaMarcus Aldridge is adding 21.1 points and 8.8 rebounds per contest.
NBA Betting Trends
Brooklyn
The Nets are 5-1 against the spread in their last six following a win and 5-2 ATS in their last seven road games.
San Antonio
The Spurs are 7-1 against the spread in their last eight against the East and 28-11 ATS in their last 39 home games.
Prediction:
The Spurs have dominated this season, winning and covering the spread in six straight against Brooklyn. Following the game against Phoenix, Popovich called out his team. For that reason, I would suspect the Spurs will come out motivated tonight at home. Getting DeRozan back also gives a boost to the offense, which has already scored at least 120 points in four straight games. The Nets have played well above expectations, but I think the loss of Dinwiddie will be felt in this game. I don’t think Brooklyn can compete with a motivated Spurs team in San Antonio.
NBA Prediction: San Antonio Spurs -7.5
